Dogs and down the drain

ANZAC DAY

Another dog - or rather - in my view, a "person" who has dogs problem. I see an online poll shows that 50% think it is a mixture of dog and owner and 50% the owner. I believe it is a 99.99% person problem. The same people don't bother to fence, look after, register or chip their animals, as they don't care.

Meantime in the West Indies we are down the drain. Although not unexpected.

Crooks and cricket.

What am I doing ?

Just been buying a couple of new garage door openers as we had one of ours stolen from our car. Admittedly we left the car in our drive unlocked but didn't allow for the cheek that somebody would go through it in broad daylight. I came home and saw the wifes car doors open and at first didn't think anything was missing. However, when we went to go out that night we found that the door opener was missing.
We thought it odd that they left the doors open but the Police explained they were only looking for the garage door opener and the system the crooks use doesn't leave fingerprints.

So we had to buy a new door opener. But we learnt one good trick - if you are going away on holiday, turn off the power to the garage door. They may not realise, in their urgency to rob and leave, that lack of power is why the garage door won't open.

Stephen Fleming - Read an excellent British article about Fleming. There was some criticism here of his manipulation of the run rate against Sri Lanka. Not in the British press - they thought he was a genius and is with Ponting (who has 10 times the resources) the best Captain. At the post South Africa press conference he was able to quote the before and after game run rates of both teams to 4 decimal places. Kallis didn't even know the Proteas run rate.
Australia tonight so I will have an early morning.

Guns gone mad again

I have little sympathy for the USA and their gun culture. Sorry for the victims, but with their lax gun laws America must expect that the nutters will always be a problem. Although every country will have a nutter go mad now and again (as we have seen here) at least other countries try to keep some control and have some sort of regulation. I think NZ is lax but of course the US is worse. It seems that the killer only needed to produce a Drivers Licence and his cheque book and he was away with his Glock pistol.
Is this what the Founding Fathers wanted - I don't believe so. Of course the US is working under a document with few changes originating from the 18th century. And 2007 is a radically different place.
Then it could be said we in NZ are operating (for some) under a document from 1840 - and 2007 is a radically different place!
No matter what they say nothing will change in the US and it will happen again.

Sport and guess who

Sport - Cricket was a great result - maybe to a certain extent the result of a good toss to win although the Proteas dropped 3 catches. However at least at the business end we have had a win to head into the semi-finals. Now the job is to try and finish second so that we don't face the Aussies.

Rugby - Surprise to me to see the Blues beaten and although a couple of dubious decisions they weren't really in the hunt. Hurricanes were lucky to get the bonus point but it was a great try by Gear to clinch it.

Grandma and guess who -

Babysitting and give the dog a bone

Had Kipp around on Saturday night for us to babysit. Of course we had to take some photos.

Top Left - Please I have to go ( I wonder who he takes after ?).
Top Right - What is that - it must be a DOG.
Right - Who is that looking at me - whoever it is, he is certainly good looking.
Also we got Rhett a bone - which he spent hours chewing at.
